These are compilations of comments from people who have seen and heard Bradbury's story about how he became a storyteller. The storyteller himself acknowledged that there were always room for lots of surprises, emphatically telling his crowd of listeners: "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise".
" Your subconscious is saying 'I don't like you anymore'." Wow. So true.
Ray, I wrote you when I was 17 in 1959 because I had just discovered DARK CARNIVAL in an old book store. I recognized your name and the style of your writing from the EC Comic books of 1952 so I bought it. It changed my life and I realized only then that some, writers take you into their world and share visions. You did that. I wrote you to ask you if I sent the book would you please sign it. You wrote back with a beautiful letter and a sheet already signed. I still have it. Thanks again.
"I graduated from the library when I was 28. Live in the library for Christ's sake!"
Beautiful Ray Bradbury.
I love you and miss you, Ray Bradbury. You made me happier than any other writer ever could. You helped to form my world, my imagination, my dreams. You were a friend and an influence and a legend all in one, and I thank you. R.I.P.
You can tell this man is a master storyteller. He is able to lecture for an hour, without notes, without losing any momentum, and remain consistently fascinating.
What an incredibly common man with an uncommon talent. The simplest of moments in his life were the acorns that grew into mighty oaks. A fleeting experience, even as simple as seeing new sneakers, brings back a flood of memories that sprout an idea in a fertile mind. This man, so unpretentious, happy and humble are rarely equaled.
This man taught me how to dream.
Ray Bradbury will forever by a hero of mine for providing my imagination with ample material, as I wondered the Earth in my youth, grasping for anything that sparked my curiosity. Imagine how thrilled I was when I discovered that NASA named Curiosity’s landing site after Mr. Bradbury, whose visions of Mars prominently featured advanced alien civilizations! Thank you NASA, and thank you Mr. Bradbury! May your soul never lie still… instead, traverse the entirety of the Universe.
In a world where there are seemingly endless barriers, walls, fences, divisions, separations, not only in the physical world, but also between people, Bradbury's great gift is offering you a place to go where you know you will always be welcome.
When I was a boy, my father told me how he loved Ray's work. As I got older I read his work myself. He got me through hard times. I knew he was going to die soon. I could tell. I checked his website every so often, fearing the news it would hold. A week before his death, I went to his website and saw he was settling his final matters. When I read the official reports, I didn't cry. I had expected I would, but I didn't. I didn't cry until today. Goodbye Ray. You are my inspiration. Rest in peace.
What a fantastic human being. I loved watching this.
The fact that this man, at the time, was in his eighties and had such a sharp wit and brillent mind is amazing. This man deserves respect.
This is one of the best hours I've spent in a long time. Thank you Ray Bradbury for sharing your imagination and your writing life. You're the best!
What can you say? Ray Bradburys stories were short only if you count letters, words, sentences. You count the heart, the gentle wit, the delicious sense of irony his stories contain. You know as sure as rain ,whether it's falling on the last house left on earth, or on a expedition to Venus, he will find a way to make those scant few pages fill you with wonder, or sympathy even at times terror. Bradburys never just tells you a story, he gives you something to remember.
The fact that so many people have access to this lecture,in itself, shows the benefit of the internet.the library was as close to the internet as it could get at the time.love ray bradbury,a great storyteller here in action.
