The birth of Jesus has brought TREMENDOUS hope not just to the people of Israel but also for us Gentile sinners. Remember that it was because of the refusal of the Israelites to believe in Jesus Christ that such great salvation has been extended to us Gentiles. When the Canaanite woman came to Jesus and asked for the healing of her daughter, Jesus told her: “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” (Matt.15:24). After seeing the woman’s persistence, our Lord Jesus again told her: “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”(Matt.15:26). But that Gentile Canaanite woman persisted all the more and even impressed our Lord Jesus with her FAITH by answering: “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
If you analyze those words, it looks like that we Gentiles were at the waiting end for the crumbs, the leftover of the children of Israel. Apostle Paul mentioned this, referring to the Israelites:
“Theirs is the adoption as sons, theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.” (Romans 9:4-5)
And rightly so Apostle Paul told the Gentile Ephesian believers, saying:
“Therefore remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision (that done in the body by the hands of men) – remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.”(Ephesians 2:11-13)
The birth of Jesus takes a new meaning as we remember that this great salvation which was originally intended for the people of Israel is now given, extended to us Gentile sinners. And with such revelation, we can truly sing the angel's song.
